Scholastic In-Person Book FairOct. 25 – 31st – If you prefer shopping in-person, please join us October 25 – 31st in the Media Center.  The book fair is open from 8:10 – 2:15 PM on Wednesday – Monday (closed over the weekend), and 8:10 – Noon on Tuesday. Students will have an opportunity to come to the book fair with their 6th/7th-grade Literacy class or 8th-grade English class throughout the week.  Click here to view some of the highlighted titles. Scholastic Virtual Book FairOct. 25 - Nov. 7th – Join us for a virtual book fair!  Please read the Family Letter for more details. Scholastic will give back 25% in rewards to our school when you shop online during the Fair. Click here to view some of the highlighted titles.

Jennifer A. Nielsen Author VisitFeb. 1st – Fall in love with Jennifer A. Nielsen's books!  She is the author of The Ascendance series, beginning with The False Prince; the Traitor's Game series, the historical novels, Iceberg, A Night Divided, Words on Fire, Lines of Courage and several other titles. 8th-graders will get to learn all about her books and writing process at a presentation.  40 lucky 6th and 7th-graders will also get to hear this best selling author speak at a small group workshop.  All students will have an opportunity to purchase one of her books and have it autographed.  If you would like to pre-order a copy click here for the order form or pick one up in the Media Center.  All orders are due to the library prior to 10AM Friday, January 12, 2024. Cash and checks (made out to Cheyenne Middle School) are accepted in the front office.  If you’d like to purchase a copy of one of Jennifer A. Nielsen’s books using a credit card, this option will only be available the day of the author visit while supplies last.

Steve Sheinkin Book Signing Event - Oct. 3rd - Join Best of Books at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 for an in-store signing event with New York Times Bestselling Author Steve Sheinkin as he discusses his new young adult nonfiction book, Impossible Escape: A True Story of Survival and Heroism in Nazi Europe with author and President of Best of Books, Joe Hight. Eoin Colfer Signing Event - Nov. 9th - Eoin Colfer, the best-selling author of the children's fantasy series Artemis Fowl, will be at Best of Books at 6 PM to present his newest book, Juniper's Christmas. Celebrate the holidays with a story of joy, magic, and saving Santa Claus. Juniper’s Christmas is the perfect holiday read, to read year after year. Max Brallier Signing Event - Nov. 12th - Join us at Best of Books for a fun filled event with #1 New York Times bestselling author Max Brallier for the release of The Last Kids on Earth and the Monster Dimension! Max will be joined in conversation with local artist, comic book illustrator and graphic novelist, Jerry Bennett. The event is from 2-4 PM. World Read Aloud DayFeb. 7th – World Read Aloud Day is an opportunity for people all around the world to create community through storytelling.

Read Across America DayMar. 2nd –  The National Education Association is calling America’s children, both young and old, to celebrate the joys of reading on March 2. Learn more at Read Across America.

Trap a Leprechaun S.T.E.M. Activity - Mar. 18th - This Spring Break, join Best of Books for a fun S.T.E.M craft and try to TRAP A LEPRECHAUN with Best of Books from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, March 18. Registration is FREE but REQUIRED for each individual child. This class is suggested for ages 5 and above, accompanied by an adult. Sign up at BestofBooksOK.com.

Percy Jackson Trivia Night - Mar. 19th - Bring your family to Best of Books to participate in a fun trivia night at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19th. All ages are welcome. Best of Books is located in Kickingbird Square at 1313 East Danforth Road, Edmond, OK 73034.

Comic Drawing Class - Mar. 21st - This Spring Break, join Best of Books for a special Comic Book Drawing class with “Glamorella’s Daughter” Illustrator, Jerry Bennett from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. Registration is FREE but REQUIRED for each individual child. This class is suggested for ages 8 and above, accompanied by an adult. Sign up at BestofBooksOK.com.

Andy Griffiths Author Event - Apr. 5th - Best of Books is excited to announce that Andy Griffiths, author of the 13-Story Treehouse book series, will be coming to the store for a book signing, to celebrate his newest release, the final book in the series, The 169-Story Treehouse: Doppelganger Doom! As Australia's most popular children's writer, he is passionate about inspiring a love of books in his young readers. Andy will be at 1313 E Danforth Rd in Edmond, OK on Friday, April 5th at 6pm.

Literary Voices: Kwame Alexander - Apr. 7th - Join Oklahoma Public Schools, Metro Tech, and the Metropolitan Library Systems from 1-3 PM to hear from New York Times Bestselling author, Kwame Alexander. Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, publisher, and author of 39 books, including Crossover, Rebound, Booked, and many more. This event is part of Literary Voices® 2024. National Library WeekApr. 7 – 13th – National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association.  It is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support.  Tuesday, April 9 is National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.

D.E.A.R. DayApr. 12th – D.E.A.R. stands for “Drop Everything and Read,” a national celebration of reading designed to remind families to make reading a priority activity in their lives. On this day, families are encouraged to take at least 30 minutes to put aside all distractions and enjoy books together. What will you be reading?

JLG Bookmark Contest - Apr. 12 - May 13th - It’s that time of year again! The National Library Week theme for 2024 is “Ready, Set, Library!” and the Junior Library Guild need your readers’ artistic skills to help us celebrate. From now until May 13, readers are encouraged to submit their very own JLG bookmark design! Click this link to download or print off the blank bookmark template and create your bookmark. When complete, bring your design to Mrs. Neff in the Media Center and she will submit your entry into the contest. If your design wins, the Cheyenne library will receive $250 in library books!

Get Caught Reading MonthMay 1 – 31st – This nationwide campaign aims to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. It is sponsored by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA).
