Congratulations Josiah Gilbert-Byers for winning 2nd place in the 2025 "If I Were a Mayor" Essay Contest. The Mayors Council of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Municipal League invited 8th graders throughout Oklahoma to participate in the statewide essay contest. The contest gave students a chance to creatively use cognitive, language arts, and social studies language skills to tell others what they would do as Mayor to make their city a better place to live. Josiah received a monetary prize and a certificate of recognition at the Oklahoma State Capitol on February 7, 2025, during the Annual Congress of Mayors. He and Edmond Mayor Darrell Davis then posed for photographs. #ShineYourLight

Congratulations Eden Blackwell for being accepted into the American Association of University Women’s Girls’ Hall of Honor! Edmond middle school teachers were tasked with nominating 7th-grade girls who exemplify strong leadership qualities. After learning more about the nominated students, the AAUW committee members then picked one girl from each middle school to honor at a reception on March 8, 2025. The honorees will then be featured in the display case in the lobby of the Edmond Public Library during the month of March – Women’s History Month. #ShineYourLight

Because of an increasing number of student and staff absences this week, we have made the difficult decision to close school for all Edmond Public Schools for tomorrow, Friday, January 31st. Extracurricular activities will continue as scheduled.   This decision was made in advance to give our families and staff members time to prepare. We will let you know as soon as possible how this instructional time will be made up.   We look forward to seeing your students back in class on Monday morning.

Cheyenne 8th Grade Orchestra Performs as Honor Orchestra at OkMEA Winter Conference On Friday, January 17, 2025, Cheyenne Middle School’s 8th Grade Orchestra had the distinguished honor of performing as the Honor Orchestra at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) Winter Conference Honor Concert. The event took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Under the direction of Mr. Jeff Ketch, the orchestra delivered an exceptional performance. Mrs. Kristin Geist served as guest conductor for one piece, while Mr. Peter Markes contributed a unique element to the program by performing his original composition, “What is Success,” accompanied by the orchestra. During the event, Mr. Ketch was presented with a commemorative plaque, which will be proudly displayed at Cheyenne Middle School. In a moment that highlighted the program's legacy, former Cheyenne Middle School orchestra teachers—Mrs. Geist, Mrs. Jennifer Bounds, Mr. Ketch, and Mr. Markes—came together for a group photograph, symbolizing their collective contributions to the school’s musical excellence. The Cheyenne 8th Grade Orchestra’s performance is a testament to their dedication and talent, earning them well-deserved recognition on this prestigious stage. #ShineYourLight

🎉 Congrats to Our Chill & Spill Champ! 🎉 Big shoutout to 6th grader Bailey Gregory for snagging the top spot in the Chill & Spill: Winter Reads in 10 Words or Less Library Challenge! 🏆📚 Here’s how it went down: Students hit up the Cheyenne Media Center, picked out a fresh-to-them book, and tackled the Winter Book Challenge—summing up their read in just 10 words or less. Between December 1 and January 16, Bailey brought the heat with her creative spark and walked away as the grand prize winner of the Starbucks gift card. 👏 Let’s give it up for Bailey and everyone who joined in on the bookish fun! Keep those pages turning, Mustangs! 📖✨

Every February, the Edmond TSA Advisors host a Technology Student Association Competition where all the TSA chapters from across the state attend. Last year, we had almost 400 students. We would like to recruit industry experts to judge these events. This would provide valuable feedback to our students. This year the Edmond TSA Conference is at Edmond Santa Fe High School (1901 W 15th Street, Edmond) on February 8, 2025. Check-in for judges will begin at 8:00 am in the Freshman Academy lobby, Judges will be provided with all the materials needed to judge their event the week before the competition and can leave when their event is completed. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Please click HERE to sign up to be a judge or copy/paste the following link into a browser: https://forms.gle/pS1FQoVAA3ctmx2CA.
